Massive mudslides in Uganda

Dear Members, Friends, Welwishers,

We have heard, seen and some witnessed the death and displacement of people in the Mount Elgon region and neighbouring lowlands of Butaleja, Budaka and Tororo districts. A massive mudslide on Mount Elgon and subsequent overflooding of rivers left many families completely wiped out, separated and others with lone survivors (and in some cases these survivors were children!) with no homes to return to and a bleak future to face. The New Vision of Tuesday 9th March 2010 reported that over 300,000 are homeless, with hardly enough to put to mouth, cloth and serve their basic social needs.

So far, only about 90 bodies have been recovered. More than 260 people are still missing and the chances of survivors are almost non-existent late alone recovery of their bodies given the continuing raging mother nature and lack of necessary excavation machinery.

Today, we are left with questions on what could have been done to prevent such a catastrophe? How prepared is Uganda for such emergencies?, how much more is expected but above all,

HOW CAN WE HELP OUR BROTHERS AND SISTERS WHO HAVE BEEN DIVERSELY AFFECTED?

All human beings have right to food, to shelter, clothing, good health, education, to mention but a few. When these are taken away, life becomes difficult and support is needed for survival.

It is therefore our duty and call as Foundation for Young Orphans family to stand together as ONE in this fight for survival and come out with all the help we can get to support our friends who are in need.

We are therefore calling upon all of you to contribute towards assistance to the mudslide victims by sending your contributions (cash, kind or any other form) to:

Foundation for Young Orphans
